Deep Roots in Englewood
Doug grew up in Englewood, where community and service were part of daily life. His parents, who owned restaurants, believed in giving back. “My parents owned restaurants, and they believed in taking care of the people around them. They fed local police officers for free, not because they had to, but because it was the right thing to do,” he recalls.
His father, widely recognized as the “Unofficial Mayor of Englewood,” set an example of leadership through relationships and integrity. “That sense of connection and responsibility to the community shaped me from an early age,” Doug says.
His childhood was filled with adventure. “I spent a lot of time riding dirt bikes and ATVs through the woods, exploring trails with friends, and just enjoying the freedom that comes with growing up in a place like Englewood,” he says. Another favorite pastime was wake skating down Ski Alley. “Englewood has always been an incredible place for adventure,” he recalls. “I was lucky to grow up making the most of it.”
A Career That Led Him Back to Charlotte County
Doug’s path took him beyond Charlotte County. He took on leadership roles that expanded his experience, including becoming the youngest Vice Mayor of St. Pete Beach. That role deepened his understanding of public service, business advocacy, and economic development.
Despite success elsewhere, Englewood always felt like home. When the opportunity arose to lead the Englewood Chamber of Commerce, Doug knew it was time to return. “Englewood has always been a special place to me, and I wanted to give back to the community that shaped me,” he says.
Now, as the youngest Executive Director in the Chamber’s history, he brings new energy to the local business community. “The Chamber allows me to help local businesses thrive, promote economic development, and create opportunities that benefit the people who live and work here,” he says. His goal is to help businesses succeed while preserving the town’s charm. Additionally, his goal is to encourage young people to stay in Charlotte County, Florida to ensure there is a young talented workforce.
Making an Impact on the Community
Since stepping into his role, Doug has helped lead community-driven efforts with real impact. One of the most meaningful was leading the Englewood Hurricane Relief Funding, which raised over $170,000. “All of that money stayed right here in Englewood, helping local families and businesses rebuild after the storm,” he says.
Beyond disaster relief, Doug works with state officials on long-term projects that bring resources to the area. His leadership style is based on listening. “What matters most to me is always being a voice for the people—listening to what the community wants and needs rather than leading with my own opinions,” he says. He credits much of his success to the mentorship he received from business owners, educators, and civic leaders. “I’ve had the privilege of learning from local business owners, educators, and civic leaders who demonstrated the importance of leadership, resilience, and innovation. Their guidance encouraged me to pursue a role where I could make a lasting impact.”

“If you know me, you know I’m everywhere, all the time,” he says. “And honestly, it doesn’t feel like work when you love what you do.”

What’s your favorite local spot in Englewood to relax or recharge?
Tough question—I don’t have just one favorite. Honestly, one of the best ways for me to recharge is walking deep in the woods with my dog, where it’s quiet, and all you can see are trees around you. There’s something about that solitude that helps clear the mind.
That said, we all live here for the beach and our beautiful waterways, so spending time on the water is always a great way to unwind. And as a man of commerce, I can’t leave out dining at some of our great local hangouts—good food, good company, and supporting local businesses all at the same time.
If you had to describe Englewood to someone who has never been here, what would you say?
Englewood is a hidden gem—a coastal town with a warm community, stunning beaches, and a strong local business scene. It’s a place where people genuinely care about each other, and the pace of life allows you to appreciate the little things.
What are you most proud of when you reflect on your journey from a local kid to a community leader?
I am proud of who my parents made me. Their work ethic, generosity, and dedication to this community shaped who I am today. I’m also proud to have always been the youngest in my roles—becoming the youngest Vice Mayor of St. Pete Beach and now the youngest Executive Director of the Englewood Chamber.
But more than titles, I’m proud that I’ve been able to take what I’ve learned from this town and use it to give back. Seeing the positive impact our work at the Chamber has on businesses and families makes everything worth it. Knowing that I’m helping Englewood grow while staying true to what makes it special is something I’ll always take pride in.
What advice would you give your 20-year-old self?
Never say no, never burn bridges, and remember that nothing is impossible. Every opportunity, no matter how small, can lead to something bigger, so always stay open to new challenges and experiences. And most importantly, nothing is impossible with God. Trust the process, stay humble, and keep pushing forward—because the best things in life come from persistence, faith, and hard work.
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
Nothing, I am an open book.
If you weren’t leading the Englewood Chamber of Commerce, what career path do you think you’d be pursuing?
I always wanted to go to law school. I took law classes in college and absolutely loved them, but work took me in another direction—and I wouldn’t change a thing.
More than anything, I think I’d still be in public service, finding ways to make a positive difference in people’s lives. Whether through law, government, or another leadership role, my passion has always been about helping communities grow and thrive. That’s what drives me, no matter what path I’m on.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received, and who gave it to you?
Never lie and always mean what you say. My mom taught me that from a young age, and it’s stuck with me ever since. She always said, “If you never lie, you never have to remember what you should say—just speak from the heart.” That lesson has guided me in both my personal and professional life, and I try to live by it every day. Honesty and integrity are everything, especially when you’re in a position of leadership and trust.
If you could have dinner with any three people, living or dead, who would they be and why?
- George W. Bush – He always seemed like a down-to-earth, normal person despite the weight of his position. He didn’t let his family ties or presidency go to his head—he remained a people’s man, which is something I respect. I’d love to have a conversation with him about leadership, decision-making, and staying grounded under pressure.
- Jeff Gordon – He was my favorite NASCAR driver growing up, and I always wanted to be like him. His drive (no pun intended), determination, and ability to perform at such a high level in a competitive sport have always inspired me. Plus, I’d love to hear some behind-the-scenes stories from his racing days.
- Saint Augustine – He’s the namesake of my confirmation name, and I’ve always felt a strong connection to his teachings. We share a lot of the same traits, and I’m constantly looking to further my religious knowledge. Sitting down with him to discuss faith, philosophy, and life would be an incredible experience.
What’s your favorite guilty pleasure—TV show, snack, or pastime?
I can’t say no to chicken fingers. I am told I have the palate of a 12-year-old.
If you had to pick a theme song for your life, what would it be?
“Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen—it’s all about perseverance and staying optimistic.
What’s the most unusual or unexpected skill you’ve picked up over the years?
I’ve gotten pretty good at navigating tricky conversations and negotiations—it’s a skill that comes in handy more often than you’d think.
Do you have a personal mantra or philosophy that guides your approach to leadership?
