Access to affordable, quality childcare isn’t just a family issue — it’s a workforce issue, a business issue, and an economic development priority. Across Florida and right here in Charlotte County, childcare challenges are affecting our ability to attract and retain talent, support working parents, and grow a thriving local economy.

At the Charlotte County Economic Development Office, we’ve heard from local businesses that the need for childcare solutions is real — and urgent. That’s why we’re partnering with the Florida Chamber Foundation to bring valuable resources and opportunities directly to our business community.

The Business Impact of Childcare Access

When parents can’t find or afford childcare, it directly impacts their ability to participate in the workforce. For local employers, this often means higher absenteeism, lower productivity, and difficulty filling positions — especially in industries that rely on shift work or non-traditional hours.

According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, childcare issues cost Florida’s economy billions annually in lost earnings and productivity. In Charlotte County, we’re seeing the same pressures reflected in our business community.

What We Heard from Charlotte County Businesses

We recently conducted a Childcare Survey to better understand the needs of local employers. The results were clear: many businesses are feeling the strain. Whether it’s concerns about employee availability, rising costs, or limited access to facilities, local employers are looking for answers and solutions.

That’s why we’re taking action.

Florida’s Childcare Tax Credit: A Tool for Business

One of the resources available to Florida businesses is the Childcare Tax Credit.  The credit incentivizes employers to contribute to childcare solutions. This credit can be used to offset costs related to employee childcare benefits, facilities, or partnerships with local providers.

To help local employers better understand and leverage this opportunity, we’ve invited Makayla Buchanan from the Florida Chamber Foundation to join us for a special online event.

You’re Invited: Learn More at Our Virtual Meeting

We’re hosting a virtual Teams Meeting on Friday, April 25.  Makayla Buchanan will break down the tax credit, explore real-world applications, and answer your questions.

This is your chance to learn how your business can benefit.  Learn how we can work together to strengthen Charlotte County’s workforce through better childcare access.
