What New Businesses Told Us at the March Business Card Exchange
March 17, 2026 Event Summary: This article will focus on Charlotte County small business support and highlight resources available for local entrepreneurs.
Listening to local businesses is one of the most important things we do.
At the March New Business Card Exchange, 65 businesses came together to connect with partners, share what they are working on, and talk about what they need next. These were not just introductions. They were real conversations with business owners who are actively building, hiring, and making decisions.
To better understand those needs, 40 businesses completed a survey following the event. The feedback was clear, consistent, and incredibly valuable.
A Strong and Engaged Business Community
The level of participation tells its own story.
With 65 attendees and a 61.5 percent survey response rate, the engagement from the business community was strong. Businesses showed up, stayed engaged, and took the time to share where they need support.
The group represented 39 different business types across industries including construction, professional services, healthcare, retail, finance, and specialty trades.
This is a diverse and active business base that is already operating and looking to grow.
The #1 Need: Marketing and Visibility
One theme stood out immediately.
95 percent of businesses identified marketing and visibility as a top priority.
This was not limited to one industry or stage of business. It was consistent across the board. Business owners are not asking how to start. They are asking how to get seen, reach customers, and grow their presence.
This is an important distinction. The challenge is not starting a business. It is sustaining and scaling it.
Businesses Are Ready to Engage
The opportunity for follow-up is significant.
92.5 percent of respondents said they are either ready now or open to connecting with support resources. Nearly half are ready to engage immediately.
This is not passive interest. These are business owners actively looking for guidance, connections, and next steps.
A Clear Awareness Gap
Another key takeaway is awareness.
70 percent of businesses said they are either not aware of available programs or want to learn more about them.
This tells us that resources exist, but they are not always reaching the businesses that need them most.
Improving how we communicate and connect businesses to partners is just as important as the resources themselves.
Growth Is Happening Right Now
Timing matters, and the timing is strong.
87.5 percent of businesses are either planning to grow or still deciding their next move. Many are considering hiring, expanding, or investing in their operations.
This is a critical window where the right support can influence decisions and help businesses grow right here in Charlotte County.
What This Means for Charlotte County
The takeaway is simple.
Businesses are engaged. They are open to support. And they are asking for help in very specific areas.
The opportunity in front of us is to:
- Help businesses increase their visibility and reach customers
- Improve awareness of existing programs and partners
- Prioritize follow-up with businesses ready to engage
- Continue using real feedback to guide how we support our business community
Events like the Business Card Exchange are more than networking. They are a direct connection to what businesses need right now.
And the message from this group was clear.
They are ready to grow.
