With fall events on the horizon—including the Florida International Airshow STEM Pavilion—we’re charting a course toward an even brighter future.

Charlotte County will soon host a new Sustainability and Resiliency Institute at MidTown Babcock Ranch, backed by $21.7 million in state funding. Led by FGCU, the 125,000-sq-ft facility will focus on water, energy, mobility, and building science inside America’s first solar-powered town. The hub strengthens education, research, and workforce pipelines while positioning Charlotte County as a leader in sustainable innovation.

Allegiant Expands Routes: Atlantic City & New Orleans
Allegiant is growing its network at PGD with two exciting additions. Direct flights to Atlantic City expand Charlotte County’s access to the Mid-Atlantic business corridor, while the new New Orleans route connects our region to one of the South’s most dynamic markets. These routes strengthen business connectivity, tourism, and enhance Charlotte County’s competitive edge for site selectors and relocating talent.

Florida welcomed a record 34.4 million visitors in Q2 2025, and Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) stood out as the fastest-growing commercial airport in the state, with passenger traffic up 22.5%. This surge isn’t just about tourism—it strengthens Charlotte County’s economy, creates ripple effects for small businesses, and boosts the county’s appeal to site selectors and investors. Charlotte County Economic Development has officially launched a new Site Selector Newsletter, published monthly on LinkedIn beginning in August 2025. This dedicated update showcases the latest in business development, infrastructure, workforce initiatives, and property opportunities tailored for site selectors and corporate decision-makers. The newsletter highlights why Charlotte County continues to stand out as a premier destination for business growth and investment.

The SBA has announced $7.5 million in Regional Innovation Cluster funding to help small manufacturers grow, innovate, and reshore critical industries. These clusters connect businesses with partners, resources, and funding pipelines—supporting the 98% of U.S. manufacturers that are small businesses.

Charlotte County Public Schools kicked off the 2025–2026 school year with three new programs designed to connect students directly to high-demand careers. Cybersecurity at Lemon Bay High, Advanced Manufacturing at Port Charlotte High, and an expanded Aviation Magnet Program at Charlotte High align education with the county’s growing industries. Together, these initiatives strengthen the local talent pipeline and ensure graduates are prepared for college, careers, or service right here in Charlotte County.
Internships give employers a low-risk way to train and evaluate future talent. More than half of interns become full-time hires, making them a powerful tool for strengthening Charlotte County’s workforce. They also help keep young professionals in the community.

We’re proud to share that Deanna Thompson of Charlotte Sr. FFA teaching in Charlotte County Public Schools, has been named a 2025-26 National Teacher Ambassador for FFA! This honor recognizes her leadership in agricultural education, as she mentors educators nationwide and helps shape the next generation of leaders in agriculture.

The Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce and CCPS welcomed more than 120 new educators at the 37th Annual New Teachers Breakfast. Superintendent Mark Vianello shared his “Success for All” vision, and 2026 Teacher of the Year Addison Montgomery was celebrated—showcasing how business and education partnerships fuel classroom success.
Representatives from the Charlotte County Economic Development Office attended the 2025 Air Carrier Purchasing Confernce (ACPC). Mark Odell, Kristy Sisler, and Director Kay Tracy met with aviation industry leaders, shared opportunities for collaboration, and promoted Charlotte County as a premier destination for business growth.
Charlotte County EDO partnered with CareerSource SWFL to host the Paychecks for Patriots Job Fair, connecting veterans, their families, and local employers. The gathering highlighted the importance of strong community ties and reinforced why Charlotte County continues to be a place where business relationships grow and thrive.

#MarkOnTheMove: From Scissors to Steering Wheels at PGD
Mark Odell hit the gas at Punta Gorda Airport’s new Rental Car Center ribbon cutting—proving he’s just as fast with scissors as he is with business connections. Hosted by the Charlotte County Chamber, the event wasn’t just about cutting a ribbon; it was about cutting travel time. Now, visitors can grab their rental keys within minutes, giving site selectors, executives, and tourists a smoother arrival and a better first impression.
For local businesses, that convenience is huge. Faster access means more time spent touring industrial parks, visiting retail corridors, or enjoying restaurants instead of waiting in line.
