Leveraging Military Experience in the Workforce
James’s advice to veterans is simple: remember your training. Being on time, present, accountable, and courteous are fundamental qualities that translate well into civilian careers.
The Marine Corps instills leadership through an acronym: JJDIDTIEBUCKLE—justice, judgment, dependability, initiative, decisiveness, tact, integrity, endurance, bearing, unselfishness, courage, knowledge, loyalty, and enthusiasm. These traits, originally designed for Marines, are just as valuable in the workplace, fostering strong decision-making skills, teamwork, and integrity.
Skills Beneficial in Banking
James credits the Marine Corps for giving him the courage to talk to anyone. Honor, Courage, and Commitment have been guiding principles in his role as a commercial banker, helping him establish trust and build meaningful client relationships.
Community Involvement
James is deeply engaged in community service, holding leadership roles in organizations such as:
- Knights of Columbus (4th Degree Assembly) – Supporting veterans, donating to the Jacob’s Center, and engaging in activities like Bingo with veterans.
- Operation Warrior Resolution – Providing holistic PTSD treatment, retreat experiences, and promoting clean living.
- Safe Children Coalition, Leadership Englewood, and Habitat for Humanity – Supporting families and individuals in need throughout the county.
James serves on the board of some of the organizations he volunteers for. In fact, the organizations had to change the times for the meeting since they conflicted.
