Fawcett Hospital has completed phase one of its $60-million expansion and renovation project that increases the hospital’s capacity and broadens its offerings. Officially open to the public on May 13, 2024, the project included expanding critical care units by 12 rooms, increasing the number of pre-operative treatment areas to 43 bays, renovation of the main lobby, waiting rooms and registration areas and the addition of a chapel and coffee shop.
HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital is a 253-bed, full-service acute care hospital with clinical specialties including a 24-hour emergency care center, a comprehensive American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Cancer accredited cancer program, Joint Commission accredited Stroke Center of Excellence, accredited Chest Pain Center with Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, Joint Commission certified Orthopedic and Spine Center, Wound Management and Hyperbaric Medicine, Inpatient and Outpatient Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery, state-of-the-art Open Heart Program, Fawcett Sports & Rehabilitation and many outpatient programs.

On August 17, 1947, ShorePoint Health Punta Gorda—then known as Charlotte Hospital—opened its doors with 18 beds and officially became Charlotte County’s first hospital. Over the years, as Charlotte County and its surrounding areas grew, so did its first hospital.
