PUNTA GORDA — A ceremonial groundbreaking for the Charlotte Harbor Business Center took place Wednesday.

The development is across the street from the Punta Gorda Airport.

The area is home to a growing number of business centers and warehouses, including FedEx, Cheney Brothers and Blue Bell.

Once complete, the building will be just under 140,000 square feet in the Airport Business Park.

Charlotte County Economic Development Director Dave Gammon said the project is expected to add $15 million to the county’s tax rolls, along with hundreds of jobs in the years to come.

“It’s an exciting time to be in Charlotte County,” Gammon said.

Minnesota-based developer Capital Partners said they want to lease space to long-term and appropriate tenants.

“Just a few short years ago, national development companies, like Capital Partners out of Minneapolis, wouldn’t have considered an investment in our community,” Gammon said. “Now Peter Mork and his Capital Partners’ team have committed to a significant project. The Economic Development Office looks forward to helping Peter, his team and Lee & Associates make this a successful venture.”

Truck parking and spec offices — near move-in ready spaces — at each end will be available, according to Capital Partners.

Manufacturing and distribution can also be done onsite.

During the event, Capital Partners presented a $10,000 check to the Center for Abuse and Rape Emergencies at the event.

C.A.R.E. representative accepted the gesture, saying it would help in their efforts to assist victims of domestic violence.

“We love being part of this community,” said Jerry Messonnier, of Lee & Associates, representing Capital Partners.
