What New Businesses in Charlotte County Told Us (And Why It Matters)
Supporting small businesses starts with listening. At a recent Charlotte County New Business Mixer, local entrepreneurs were invited to complete a short business survey to share their priorities, challenges, and growth plans. The results spoke loud and clear and are already helping shape how economic development partners can better support business success in Charlotte County .
A Snapshot of Charlotte County’s New Business Community
The survey included 28 businesses across 12 different industries, ranging from home services and retail to professional and specialized services. This diverse mix reflects the strength and variety of Charlotte County’s local economy.
Despite operating in different sectors, business owners shared many of the same concerns and goals.
Marketing and Visibility Are the Top Business Needs
The most significant finding was clear: 86% of businesses identified marketing and visibility as a top priority. New business owners are looking for help getting noticed—whether that means improving their digital presence, reaching new customers, or strengthening their brand.
This insight highlights an important opportunity for targeted marketing support, education, and partnerships that help businesses grow sustainably.
Strong Interest in Business Support Programs
Awareness of available resources is another key area of opportunity.
- 54% of businesses want to learn more about local support programs
- 18% were not aware of these resources at all
Together, that means nearly three-quarters of surveyed businesses are actively seeking information about programs that support workforce development, funding, training, and business growth.
Businesses Are Open to One-on-One Support
The survey also revealed strong interest in direct engagement:
- 93% of businesses are open to one-on-one support, either now or in the future
- 43% are ready for meetings immediately
This level of openness shows that entrepreneurs are not only interested in resources—they’re eager to connect and take next steps.
Growth Plans Signal Opportunity
Looking ahead, 32% of businesses plan to expand, hire, or relocate within the next 12 months, while more than half are still considering their options. This decision-making window presents an important chance to support businesses early and help influence positive growth outcomes within Charlotte County.
