Healthcare


Charlotte County boasts four area hospitals in a 694 square mile area. With a population of roughly 160,000 people, that equates to one hospital servicing approximately 40,000 residents.

Englewood Community Hospital, is located in the western area of the county. ShorePoint Health Punta Gorda (formerly Bayfront Health), is located in the City of Punta Gorda, which is in the southern area of the county. The two remaining hospitals, Fawcett Memorial Hospital and ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte (formerly Bayfront Health) are in Port Charlotte, the center of the county, within the Parkside Community Redevelopment Area.

ShorePoint Health Punta Gorda

On August 17, 1947, ShorePoint Health Punta Gorda—then known as Charlotte Hospital—opened its doors with 18 beds and officially became Charlotte County’s first hospital. Over the years, as Charlotte County and its surrounding areas grew, so did its first hospital. Today, ShorePoint Health Punta Gorda is a 208-bed Joint Commission Accredited hospital that features all-private patient rooms in the acute care setting, and offers an accredited primary stroke center, the Joint Commission Certified Joint and Spine Center, robotic-assisted surgery technology, an accredited chest pain center, an accredited hyperbaric and wound care center, inpatient psychiatric care, and emergency care services

In 2021, ShorePoint Health Punta Gorda continued to grow and evolve as resources were directed toward increased medical services, facilities and technologies totaling a capital investment of $6.2 million.

ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte

ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte is a 254-bed Joint Commission Accredited full-service hospital that offers an accredited primary stroke center, robotic-assisted surgery technology, services in emergency care, general surgery, and orthopedics as well as the only licensed obstetric and pediatric units in Charlotte County. The on-campus ShorePoint Heart Center is an accredited chest pain center with PCI offering a range of cardiac services.

 

Growth and community involvement continue to be prominent themes at ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte with more than 50 years of service in Charlotte County.
