United Way of Charlotte County Celebrates 60 Years of Community Impact

Sixty years of service is worth celebrating, especially when that service helps strengthen the people behind our local economy.

Charlotte County Economic Development’s Mark Odell joined community leaders on Aug. 11 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of United Way of Charlotte County and recognize the organization’s longstanding impact in our community.

At Charlotte County Economic Development, we know a strong economy depends on a strong community. United Way helps provide part of that foundation by bringing together businesses, nonprofit organizations, donors, volunteers and government to address challenges facing local residents, from basic needs and education to financial stability and community resilience.

That work also connects directly to our workforce. According to United Way’s latest ALICE data, 31% of Charlotte County households are ALICE, meaning they earn above the federal poverty level but still struggle to afford basic household expenses. Another 10% of local households live below the poverty line.

These are many of the people working in the businesses and industries that keep Charlotte County moving. Helping families become more stable helps strengthen our workforce, our businesses and the resilience of our entire community.
