Southwest Florida Resilience Accelerator Fuels Innovation
July 17th, 2026

The Southwest Florida Resilience Accelerator is bringing entrepreneurs and technology companies to Babcock Ranch to develop solutions for stronger, more sustainable communities.
The Florida Council of 100 and its Foundation announced the statewide accelerator program on July 14. Applications are open through Aug. 21, 2026.
Ten companies will be selected for the Southwest Florida track. The eight-week hybrid program will begin the week of Oct. 12.
Babcock Ranch becomes a living laboratory
Babcock Ranch will serve as the program’s Southwest Florida home. Known as America’s first solar-powered town, the Charlotte County community offers entrepreneurs a real-world environment where they can explore how new technologies may perform in homes, businesses and neighborhoods.
In a July 15 article for Builder, senior editor Leah Draffen reported that Babcock Ranch will serve as a living laboratory where companies can pilot, test and scale resilience solutions.
“Anchoring the new Southwest Florida Resilience Accelerator at Babcock Ranch underscores our vision to be the most sustainable, innovative, and resilient town in America,” said Lucienne Pears, vice president of economic and business development for Kitson & Partners, in the Builder article.
Pears also explained that the program will bring innovators, capital, resources and business connections together in Southwest Florida.
Building solutions for stronger communities
Builder reports that participating companies may develop solutions in four areas:
- Building inspections, artificial intelligence modeling and construction assessments
- Water systems, energy storage, leak detection and advanced building materials
- Permitting, risk analysis, lifecycle cost modeling and building operations
- Technology addressing flooding, wind, fire, coastal conditions and natural systems
These challenges reach across many industries. Builders need stronger materials. Property owners need better risk information. Communities need reliable water and energy systems. Engineers, planners and insurers need tools that help them make informed decisions.
Helping founders connect and grow
The Florida Council of 100 says more than 75 CEOs, founders and senior executives are supporting the statewide program.
Selected companies will receive executive coaching and strategic guidance. Founders will also connect with potential customers, investors and experienced business leaders.
Participants will take part in a statewide showcase and receive access to the invitation-only eMerge Americas Miami AI Summit. In addition, one founder and one co-founder or founding team member from each selected company will receive a free one-year Embarc Collective membership in 2027.
“Babcock Ranch was built on the belief that resilience and innovation go hand in hand,” said Syd Kitson, chairman and CEO of Kitson & Partners and founder of Babcock Ranch, in the Florida Council of 100 announcement.
A growing center for resilient innovation
The accelerator builds on other work underway at Babcock Ranch.
In 2025, Florida approved $21.7 million in first-phase funding for Florida Gulf Coast University and Babcock Ranch to advance an Institute on Sustainability and Resiliency in Charlotte County.
The institute and accelerator are separate initiatives. However, both add to Babcock Ranch’s growing role as a destination for research, technology and resilient community design.
How to apply
Applications for the Southwest Florida Resilience Accelerator are open through Aug. 21 and will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Builder reports that the first cohort is expected to be announced near the end of September.
