Cheney Brothers Receives Charlotte County Excellence in Business Award

Charlotte County Economic Development proudly presented Cheney Brothers with the Economic Development Excellence in Business Award.
This award is one of the County’s highest recognitions for the private sector. It is presented to a business that demonstrates outstanding leadership, economic impact, and a sustained commitment to the community. Recipients of this award are organizations that not only contribute to job creation and economic strength, but also lead with integrity, generosity, and a genuine sense of responsibility to the people they serve.
It is our distinct honor to recognize Cheney Brothers as a recipient of the Charlotte County Excellence in Business Award.
We celebrate a company that truly exemplifies what it means to be a community partner. Cheney Brothers is a cornerstone of our local economy and an organization whose values, leadership, and service have made a lasting and meaningful impact across Charlotte County and throughout Southwest Florida.
Over the years, Cheney Brothers has continued to demonstrate a deep commitment to putting people first supporting employees, customers, first responders, and neighbors in ways that often happen quietly and without recognition. Their approach to business is guided by a simple but powerful principle: treat others the way you would want to be treated. That philosophy is evident at every level of the organization, from daily operations to executive leadership.
When our community has faced challenges, Cheney Brothers has consistently stepped forward. During hurricane response efforts, their local facility became a place of support for those working to restore essential services. Utility crews and first responders were welcomed, provided with meals, and given a place to regroup while working long hours to help Charlotte County recover. These actions were not done for attention they were done because it was the right thing to do.
Beyond emergency response, Cheney Brothers has built a strong culture of giving that reaches far into the community. In 2025, the company partnered with the Marine Corps League Detachment 756 here in Charlotte County to support the Toys for Tots mission. They also hosted their annual Holiday Toy Drive at the Cheney Express storefront in Punta Gorda, collecting new, unwrapped toys for families across Southwest Florida. While donors received a small token of appreciation, the true impact was felt by children and families during the holiday season.
The company has also demonstrated leadership through food rescue and donation efforts. Following major company events, including their headquarters food show, surplus food is donated to local food banks rather than going to waste. Most recently, approximately 4,300 pounds of food were donated providing more than 3,500 meals to individuals and families in need. This is business excellence in action: using scale, logistics, and planning to directly benefit the community.
At the heart of these efforts is a strong internal culture. Cheney Brothers is a company with more than a century of history with a family mindset that is felt throughout the organization. With more than 500 local employees, the company continues to invest in workforce development, leadership training, and long-term career growth. Partnerships with institutions such as Florida SouthWestern State College help strengthen the local talent pipeline and support sustained economic growth in Charlotte County.
The company has also made strategic investments in facility upgrades and automated systems to improve efficiency, safety, and service reliability demonstrating a forward-thinking approach that balances innovation with a people-centered workplace.
