Build the skills your business needs

On-the-job training, or OJT, combines paid employment with hands-on instruction. Employees learn the skills their positions require while working. Meanwhile, participating employers receive reimbursement to help offset training and supervision costs.

Rather than waiting for an applicant who checks every box, this approach lets businesses consider someone who can grow into the role.

Understand the wage reimbursement

Florida’s approved OJT framework allows up to 90% reimbursement of qualifying participant wages for eligible businesses statewide. Businesses located in designated Opportunity Zones, or employing current residents of those zones, may qualify for up to 100%. The current federal authorization extends through June 30, 2028.

However, those percentages are maximums, not guaranteed payments. Participation remains subject to program requirements and an approved agreement. Reimbursement does not cover overtime, paid leave, fringe benefits or work outside the OJT contract.
