Parkside Community Redevelopment Area

Located in the heart of Port Charlotte, the Parkside CRA was originally developed in the 1950’s by early master plan developers General Development Corporation and the Mackle Brothers. The area is the home of two hospitals and a mix of low to high density residential development.

The 1,100 acre redevelopment area was once the main commerce district for Charlotte County. In 2010, the Board of County Commissioners established the Parkside Community Redevelopment Area and adopted the Citizens’ Master Plan that outlined the need for infrastructure improvements to revitalize the neighborhood and commerce district in order to generate private sector investment. In 2012, the Peace River Hospital completed a $25 million expansion which included the opening of a full-service cardiac center.

To date, the Board of County Commissioners has committed $9 million to implement the Citizen’s Master Plan. Projects currently underway include replacing water and sewer pipes, improving drainage, and enhancing street corridors with multi-use pedestrian paths and landscaping.

For more information on the Parkside CRA please visit the Parkside CRA web site or call the Economic Development Office at 941-764-4941.
